CONTRACTOR INFO

Contractor / homeowner awareness-

D. Kelly Designs does not pour concrete, we work with the given slab. Concrete finishing techniques and subcontractor awareness is essential to this process. To avoid imperfections in the slab, keep all tools supplies and people off of the slab until dry. To achieve a polished marble finish the slab must be slick, hard, power trowelled, by the concrete finishers.

Concrete is susceptible to staining. DO NOT WRITE ON SLAB WITH ANYTHING BUT PENCIL. A few examples of penetrating agents are: red chalk, permanent markers, WAX PENCILS, adhesives, flux, oils, gas, solder, primer, paint, stain, poly seal, caulk, PVC primer/cleaner, PVC adhesive, food, grease, beverages, coke and rust. Muratic acid will completely prevent the reaction necessary for the staining process.

BE SURE TO WARN ALL SUBCONTRACTORS THAT THE SLAB WILL BE A FINISHED FLOOR.

Reckless error is not an option in these areas. Upon completion, the floors can have a protective cover put in place to help protect the floors throughout the duration of the building process. It is important that all workmen are aware that the slab is a finished floor and needs to be protected. If for any reason, the protective cover needs to be temporarily moved for a specific craft to do their job, it is essential that the cover be replaced. D. Kelly Designs will have a copy of the ground floor plans before the scoring begins. After the scoring has begun, we can not be responsible for changes to the plans that create interference with the design (i.e. cabinet depth, wall locations, etc.)

Application Schedule

Deco-sawcut or Concrete Scoring-

The scoring process is the actual cutting of shallow grooves on the surface of your slab. This adds dimension and beauty to your floor. Scoring is best done within the first three days after the concrete is poured. There are many patterns to choose from, or we can apply a custom design of your own.

Concrete Staining/Sealing-

Stain is applied immediately after dry-in, before plumbers, insulation, sheet rock, etc. D.Kelly Designs offers a range of colors viewed on Color samples page. Stain is applied in various ways to give an even more unique and striking look. Sealer will be applied with one or more of the following methods:

Clearsealer, waxing, and buffing. This procedure will generally take 4-5 working days depending on difficulty of the pattern.
